Lab Testing Fees
Conventional Medical and Hormone Blood Tests
These are probably the most important tests, yet they are almost always incomplete. I strive to have as many of these tests as possible performed by your medical doctor so that OHIP covers the costs. Complete testing is essential because subtle hormonal, metabolic, or nutritional imbalances can easily be missed when only a limited panel is ordered.
Many patients are told that their results are “normal,” even though important markers were never tested or were not interpreted in the context of fertility. I will provide you with a comprehensive list of appropriate laboratory tests to request from your doctor to make the most of your publicly funded healthcare coverage. Any tests they are unwilling to perform can be ordered through my office if necessary. These additional tests may provide valuable insights into hormone balance, ovulation patterns, thyroid function, nutrient status, inflammation, and other factors that can influence fertility.
The cost varies depending on the test(s) ordered, but it reflects only the actual laboratory cost, with no additional markup for testing. When possible, I always encourage patients to complete testing through their family doctor first so that it is covered by OHIP.
Please ask for copies of any blood work, imaging reports, or ultrasounds performed related to fertility, menstrual cycles, or routine physical exams. Reviewing past results can often reveal important trends or missing information that helps guide treatment decisions. You are entitled to copies of your own medical records, and your family doctor or fertility clinic can provide them upon request. Bringing these documents to your visit allows us to build on the testing that has already been done and helps avoid unnecessary duplication of laboratory work.
Food Allergy/Intolerance Blood Tests
101 IgG Food Panel
211 IgG Food Panel
96 IgG & IgA Food Panel
Adrenal Stress Profile
This test helps to assess adrenal gland health. Adrenals produce androgens that support the ovaries, stimulate folliculogenesis, and provide building blocks for converting into estrogen. Blood tests for DHEAs, testosterone, and a.m. cortisol assess your adrenal gland health.
Comprehensive Thyroid Testing
Normal thyroid function is important for fertility and also for a healthy baby. Complete thyroid testing includes TSH, free T3, free T4, reverse T3, anti-TPO, and anti-thyroglobulin antibodies.
Vitamin D3
Vitamin D is involved in the normal function of your ovaries or testes. Low levels of vitamin D have been associated with both PCOS and endometriosis.
Comprehensive Gluten Allergy/Celiac Disease
IgG and IgA anti-gluten and anti-gliadin antibodies, tissue transglutaminase, and endomysial antibodies.
MTHFR Mutation Testing
MTHFR mutation can lead to poor methylation, sluggish liver detoxification, birth defects, and increased toxicity. MTHFR testing is currently only available through your MD. In addition to measuring specifically for the MTHFR mutation, more comprehensive testing for many genetic SNPs can be done through a lab like Ancestry.ca. Naturopathic doctors in Ontario cannot order genetic testing for you.
Advanced Infertility Blood Testing – these tests are currently only available through an MD
Anti-phospholipid Antibodies
Natural Killer (NK) Cell Activity Assay
Th1/Th2 Cytokine Ratio
